    IMD's latest forecast on Cyclone 'Mandous': Deep depression over the Bay of Bengal

    Digital Desk: As said by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has condensed into a deep depression and is expected to deepen into a cyclonic storm by this evening. 

    "The Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centring at 0530 hours IST of today, the 07th December 2022, adjacent latitude 8.6°N and longitude 86.4°E, about 570 kilometres east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), about 710 kilometres east-southeast of Jaffna (Sri Lanka), about 770 kilometres east-southeast of Karaikal, and approximately 830 kilometres km of the southeast of Chennai," stated IMD.

    It is most likely to continue west-northwestward, build further gradually into a cyclonic storm, and approach the southwest Bay of Bengal off the beaches of north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjacent south Andhra Pradesh by 8 am on December 7. During the following 48 hours, it will continue to move west-northwestward toward the beaches of north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjacent south Andhra Pradesh, according to the IMD.

    The anticipated cyclonic storm's forecast route and intensity have also been released by the weather bureau. The system will advance as a cyclonic storm through December 9 before weakening into a deep depression on December 10. The following day, it will weaken into a depression. 

    On December 8, the meteorological department has also forecast that coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and neighbouring areas off south coastal Andhra Pradesh will also most probably have mild to moderate rainfall at most locations with heavy to very severe amounts at isolated locations.

    On December 9, there may be isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over north interior Tamilnadu and adjacent Rayalaseema, as well as light to moderate rainfall in the majority of places, heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places, and extremely heavy rainfall in a few isolated places. 

    IMD said, "On December 10, it is anticipated to reduce to light to moderate rainfall at many locations with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations possible over north Tamilnadu, Rayalaseema, and south Andhra Pradesh."
