Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Punjab science, technology, and environment minister, reviewed the ongoing Budha Dariya rejuvenation project on Tuesday.
Digital Desk: Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Punjab science, technology, and environment minister, took account of the ongoing Budha Dariya rejuvenation project on Tuesday and directed officials from the Municipal Corporation, Sewage Board, PPCB, and other departments to expedite the process of cleaning Budha Dariya.
During a meeting at the Jamalpur Treatment Plant, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer stated that cleaning Budha Dariya was a top priority for the Punjab government and that he would personally review the project on a regular basis to ensure that it was completed well ahead of schedule. He stated that the priority of the Budha Dariya rejuvenation project would not be compromised, and he directed officials to complete the work on the 225-MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Jamalpur by December of this year.
The Minister stated that work on two new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for treating domestic water with a total capacity of 285 MLD (Jamalpur 225 MLD and Balloke 60 MLD), rehabilitation of existing STPs, two Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) for treating wastewater from two dairy complexes in Tajpur and Haibowal, six intermediate pumping stations, laying of a 10-kilometer pipeline, and other projects were underway under the Budha Da
Hayer assured the people that the AAP government was committed to environmental protection and that he would do everything possible to ensure a clean and safe Punjab.
Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Rajya Sabha MP and Committee Member, also emphasised the importance of completing ongoing work under the rejuvenation project on time to ensure the cleanliness of Budha Dariya. He also requested that all encroachments around Budha Dariya be removed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, MLA Daljeet Singh Grewal stated that the administration should investigate the feasibility of establishing a STP to treat domestic waste from surrounding areas.
Later, the Minister and other representatives paid a visit to the Tajpur Road 50 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP). Isha Kalia, CEO of Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC), Surabhi Malik, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Shena Aggarwal, and others were prominent attendees on this occasion.
