FIR filed against comedian Vir Das for his controversial clip “I come from two Indias”

Mumbai: An FIR has been filed against popular Indian stand-up comedian Vir Das for making a controversial note stating he lives in two Indias. The FIR has been lodged at Delhi’s Tilak Marg police station.

As per police information, a BJP leader has filed a complaint against actor-comedian Vir Das. The leader alleged that Vir used “derogatory” remarks against India on an international platform, and his statement has attacked the nation’s image.

Delhi BJP vice president and spokesperson Aditya Jha has claimed that Das at the John F. Kennedy Centre in Washington DC show stated that women are worshiped in the day and raped at night in India.

VP Jha claimed that such remarks upon India would disgrace the image of women and how the nation treats women.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Deepak Yadav said that they had received a complaint in this regard. They further added that the matter is being inquired, and no FIR has been registered yet.

Indian comedian Vir Das uploaded a six-minute video clip from his speech, “I come from two Indias,” on YouTube. The clip spread quickly and received huge reactions from netizens.

On November 16, Vir Das uploaded another statement explaining that his words weren’t meant to insult the nation.

The six-minute video clip highlighted Vir Das addressing a huge mass in an international platform talking about India. He also talked about the duality of the nation. He mentioned some of the major issues in India in a humorous tone yet on the serious ground.

The video acted as a satire for addressing the issues of the nation. Vir’s speech satirically attacked the image of the nation, its authenticity, culture, etc.

The statement made by Vir for clarification stated, “It ends in a gigantic patriotic round of applause for a country we all love, believe in, and are proud of. So that there is more to our country than the headlines, a deep beauty. Also, that’s the point of the video and the reason for the applause.”

Vir Das said that people cheer for the nation with hope and not “hate.” He asked his followers not to be tricked by edited clips.
