Floods submerge 24 Assam districts, take 87 lives

Guwahati: The death toll due to Assam floods rose to 87 on Tuesday. Over 24 lakh population is still affected by the floods. A total of 1,10, 323.54 hectares of crops, 2,210,268 animals (big, small and poultry) have been affected.

According to the daily flood bulletin by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), person died in Nagaon and another in Morigaon.

The report states that Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Goalpara, Dhubri, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Nagaon, East Siang, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Karimganj.

Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Cachar are among the flood affected districts.

Embankments, roads, bridges, culverts and many other infrastructure have been damaged at various places in Udalguri, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Dibrugarh districts, the report said.

Massive erosion has been witnessed at different places of Majuli, Baksa, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts, it added.
