Gabbar turns 36: Interesting facts about left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan

Mumbai: Left-handed opening batsman of the Indian cricket team, Shikhar Dhawan, turned 36 today. He is numbered among one of the most competitive openers India ever had. 

Shikhar Dhawan, also popularly known as ‘Gabbar,’ topped the Twitter trending scale today as fans posted numerous birthday posts for him.

Even though he is known for his outstanding abilities to bring match stability and endurance, let us look into some interesting facts about the ideal player.

First of all, Gabbar possesses the record for most runs scored, with 505 in the 2004 Under-19 World Cup.

Dhawan is regarded as “Gabbar” due to his typical looks and twirling moustache. He is also known by the name ‘jaat-ji’ by many of his teammates. He hails from the Jaat community and therefore gets the nickname. 

Dhawan is the fastest player in One Day International history to cross 2000 and 3000 runs (ODIs).

The player holds a strong connection with tattoos. He inked his first tattoo at the age of 15. 

Dhawan started his cricket career as a wicket-keeper.

Dhawan scored the highest debut score with 187 runs against Australia in Mohali in 2013. This score is the highest ever made by any Indian cricketer. 

During the Challenger Trophy 2005, Dhawan had started the batting for India Seniors with MS Dhoni.

Veterans, including former Indian stalwarts of the Indian cricket team, including his fans, wished Dhawan on his 36th birthday. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a birthday wish for Dhawan. The tweet read, “247 international matches 10179 international runs Fastest to score a Test century on debut Here’ wishing #TeamIndia batter @SDhawan25 a very happy birthday.”
