Coronavirus News Updates: Centre warns 5 states over rising Covid-19 cases

The Union Health Ministry has directed all states to continue monitoring the development of the infection and take the necessary procedures to treat Covid-19 quickly and effectively.

Digital Desk: Amid rising fears about the fourth wave of coronavirus striking the nation soon, the Centre has written to five states with higher contributions to the nation's Covid-19 cases and a higher positive rate.

"These are a few states that contribute more to India's caseload and have a greater positive rate. The Centre asked all states and UTs to take a risk-based strategy to resume economic and social activities without jeopardising the successes gained so far in the pandemic fight," Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan stated in the letter on Tuesday.

The five states are- Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram, Maharashtra, and Delhi. The Union Health Ministry has directed all states to continue monitoring the development of the infection and to take the necessary strategies to treat Covid-19 quickly and effectively.

It has been recommended that states keep up the five-pronged strategy of "test-track-treat-vaccination and adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour," focusing on mask use in public places.

"It is important that the state keep a close eye on any places of concern and take preventative measures if necessary to control any growing spread of the infection," Bhushan wrote in the letter.

He added that regular monitoring and timely follow-up action in emerging areas of concern are crucial.
