Nagaland to set its own version of NRC

Kohima: The Nagaland Government decided to set up a joint consultative committee for the preparation of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), the State own version of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

According to the report, the exercise to prepare the register of RIIN will begin on July 10 and it will be completed within 60 days.

According to the State Government, RIIN will identify the citizen who settled in Nagaland before December 1, 1963, the day it become a full-fledged State.

The exercise will be conducted through an extensive survey of residents in every village and ward in the state and will be based on existing official records. Once the data is compiled, provisional lists of indigenous inhabitants will be published, the report says.

The list will be published in villages and wards and on websites of each district by September 11. A period of 30 day will be given to file claims and objections.

On the completion of the process, all indigenous inhabitants will be issued an Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate (IIC) by the Nagaland government.

Moreover, no fresh IICs will be issued once the process is over and only newborns of indigenous inhabitant will be given the certificate and their names will be updated in RIIN.
