    Uttar Pradesh Election Result 2022: Yogi Adityanath Wins from Gorakhpur Urban Seat

    According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Yogi Adityanath received 85,356 votes, while his nearest rival SP candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla, received 30,498 votes.


    Digital Desk: Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yogi Adityanath won the Gorakhpur Urban seat by a massive margin of 54,858 votes on Thursday (March 10).

    Notably, his victory comes at a time when the BJP is poised to retain power in Uttar Pradesh.

    According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Yogi Adityanath received 85,356 votes, while his nearest rival SP candidate Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla, received 30,498 votes. On the other hand, Chandra Shekhar Azad, the leader of the Azad Samaj Party, received only 4,501 votes.

    Yogi Adityanath represented the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat until 2017 when he was appointed chief minister of Uttar Pradesh following the Bharatiya Janata Party's landslide victory in the state elections. The Gorakhpur Sadar seat had also been a BJP stronghold, which the party had never lost since the Jan Sangh days of 1967.

    According to the latest reports of ECI, BJP has 13 seats and leads in 237 constituencies. The Samajwadi Party leads on 116 seats, while the Congress leads in only two.
