    Amarnath cloudburst tragedy: 15 killed, several injured; Yatra temporarily suspended

    Reportedly, the authorities temporarily suspended the Yatra from the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.


    Digital Desk: On Saturday, rescue operations at the Amarnath cave temple were resumed after 15 people were killed and several more were injured in a cloudburst on Friday.

    On Saturday morning at first light, teams from the NDRF, SDRF, BSF, CRPF, Army, police, and ITBP continued their rescue operations, officials said.

    Afroza Shah, the chief medical officer (CMO) Ganderbal district, said, "15 people have died, and numerous others have been hurt in the flash flood that occurred on Friday due to the cloudburst."   She added that five persons had been pulled alive from the flash flood's debris.

    The effort to ascertain the total number of deaths, injuries and missing people is still underway.

    Reports from the disaster site stated that between 25 and 30 pilgrims' tents and five "Langars" (Community Kitchens) were destroyed by the fast-moving muddy slush brought on by the cloudburst that happened around 5.30 pm on Friday.

    The Army has deployed helicopters to support the civil administration in relief and rescue operations. As per the Army, rescue operations by the security personnel' continued overnight.

    MeT department has stated that another cloud is moving towards the Baltal-Holy cave path, causing light to moderate rainfall.
