Digital Desk: The Assam Police on Thursday warned Oil India Ltd (OIL) and ONGC of a potential attack by the banned outfit ULFA(I) on its infrastructure and staff in the state.
According to the officials, the police have sent an advisory to the two PSU energy majors.
Reportedly, following talks with several agencies such as the CISF and AISF, Oil India and ONGC have taken the security advice "seriously" and have already issued a set of "dos and don'ts" for their staff.
A senior officer at the Assam Police said that a telephonic advisory was made to Oil India officials about probable strikes, including the kidnapping of officials, on its installations by the ULFA(I).
"Many sites where oil rigs are located become unavailable during the monsoon. So, we inform the companies about the security issue. This is something that happens regularly, " he added, without going into detail.
OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika responded by saying that the company had gotten "some intelligence input" from the police earlier this week. " An internal meeting was held right away, and Resident Chief Executive In-Charge presided over it. He claimed that senior officials from the CISF, AISF OIL Security, and other departments were present in the meeting," he claimed.
According to Hazarika, the group decided to teach the officials about numerous security risks, and in accordance with it, steps were taken.
"In response to the Assam Police's advice, steps were taken to monitor the movements of the OIL personnel and company operations. People have been warned to exercise caution in their official and personal movements," he said.
