Digital Desk: At least 150 garment factory workers, mostly women, became ill after a suspected gas leak at a special economic zone in Atchyutapuram in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli district at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.

The exact source of the leak was not immediately known, but it is believed to have originated from a neighbouring veterinary medicine lab. On April 13, seven people died and 15 others were injured in an explosion at the lab.

"While many were treated at the factory, another 50 female workers were taken to the NTR Government Hospital in Anakapalli in buses and autos," said a police officer.

Further, he added that a total of 400 people were working on the shift at the time of the leak, and many of the employees reported nausea and vomiting; some fainted. On June 3, a similar gas leak in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam resulted in the hospitalization of more than 170 workers.
