    Digital Desk: Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has tested positive for covid-19. Reportedly, he is not exhibiting any "severe symptoms" and is recovering at his official residence in Chandigarh.


    "All people who came in contact with him are requested to isolate and get themselves examined," an official statement reads. 


    He also tested positive for covid-19 in 2020 while serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.


    On Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ordered the Health Department to be ready for any contingency stemming from the covid-19 rise and urged people to take the necessary precautions. "It is important that people do not succumb to the covid-19 pandemic," Mann stated.


    Meanwhile, India reported 20,551 new cases of covid-19, bringing the total to 4,41,07,588, as per the data from the Union Health Ministry on Friday (August 5). The death toll increased to 70, bringing it to 5,26,600. The number of active cases has decreased to 1,35,364, and both the daily and weekly positive rates were recorded at 5.14 percent and 4.64 percent, respectively.
