As per the Election commission, Bhuban Gam won the Majuli constituency with a margin of 41,530 votes after securing 66 094 votes on his side.

Digital Desk: Bhuban Gam of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the by-election from the Majuli constituency, which was held on March 7. Notably, it was a three-way fight between Assam Jatiya Parishad candidate Chittaranjan Basumatary, SUCI(C) candidate Bhaity Richong, and BJP candidate Bhuban Gam. As per the Election commission, Bhuban Gam won the constituency with a margin of 41,530 votes after securing 66 094 votes on his side. The by-poll took place after former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal resigned from the assembly after being offered a post in the Union Ministry. Today, at 8 am, the counting of votes for the 99 Majuli (ST) constituency began. Nitin Khade, the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, met with the DEO of Majuli to examine the counting arrangements. He ordered that the Commission’s directions be followed. He further stated that each counting hall must ensure that covid-19 requirements are followed. The concerned DEO devised comprehensive plans for a seamless and secure count in Majuli LAC as per the order. Reportedly, to ensure the smooth running of the counting process, foolproof security measures were put in place. Moreover, the counting centre was outfitted with three layers of protection. For counting, the Commission has also designated RO and AROs. Also Read: Assam Municipal Election: BJP leading in 296 wards, counting of votes underway Bidang Fighting Guwahati
