Assam To Establish Shelter Home For Transgender Community In Guwahati

Digital Desk: In a significant move towards the welfare and empowerment of transgender community in Assam, the state government has announced a shelter home for them in Guwahati. This initiative will provide a safe place, support, and rehabilitation for transgender people. Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced the decision on March 10 during the Assam Budget 2025.

During her budget speech, the finance minister introduced financial incentives for meritorious OBC and SC students of economically weaker sections. Other schemes included skill training programmes.

The Government Braille Press will also continue its work in printing and supplying Braille textbooks across the Northeast to ensure literacy among students with visual impairments.

Rs 417 crore was announced for the project in the budget.
