Digital Desk: Even though Punjabi actor and activist Deep Sidhu died in a car accident near Delhi on Tuesday night, his girlfriend Reena Rai, who was in the car with him, survived. Reena was found on the left side of the vehicle, which was not severely damaged, according to the police. The airbag immediately opened after the accident, saving Reena Rai’s life.
According to reports, she was seated on the left side of the car, which was not severely injured compared to the opposite side, where Deep sat. Reena was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and the airbag on her side opened immediately, saving her life. Due to the airbag, Reena was saved from serious head and chest injuries during the accident; however, in the case of Deep Sidhu, the airbag exploded after it was opened.
Meanwhile, Deep’s body has been taken to Sonipat, Haryana, for a post-mortem examination. Reportedly, when the incident occurred near Pipli toll plaza in Kharkhoda, the 37-year-old actor was claimed to be travelling from Delhi to Punjab.
Kharkhoda police station Inspector Jaspal Singh said, “Deep Sidhu died as a result of the accident. His female companion was brought to the hospital, where her condition was stabilized. An inquiry was underway to ascertain the exact reason of the tragedy.”
As per the police report, Sidhu suffered critical brain injuries in the accident. After crashing into the halted truck, the white SUV was extensively damaged on the driver’s side, according to TV footage.
Earlier, at the Delhi boundaries, Sidhu took part in the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s three farm laws. On February 9, 2021, he was detained in connection with the Red Fort riots on Republic Day during a farmers’ tractor march against the Centre’s three agricultural regulations. He spent more than two months in jail before being freed on bail.
