Dhubri: The police arrested one teacher in connection with the kidnapping of a Class 7 student from Bhogdahar area under Dhubri district. The kidnapped girl has been recovered after 11 days in captivity.

The arrested teacher has been identified as Abdur Rashid, hailing from Dhubri's Fakirganj, who is alleged to be involved in the minor girl's kidnapping.

As per reports, the girl was kidnapped by one Safikul Islam, who had allegedly put forward a marriage proposal to the family members of the victim. On being denied, Safikul kidnapped the girl.

"He is already married and has a wife. Why would we allow our child get married to Safikul when he is already married and not divorced? Manowara was kidnapped right outside her house 11 days ago. As many days have passed, we came to the police station to lodge a complaint against the accused. She was taken away because we had denied Safikul's proposal," stated Manowara's relative.

The victim has been identified as Manowara Begum, a student of Class 7 in Fakirganj, Dhubri, who was kidnapped on September 10 by one Safikul Islam. At present Safikul is absconding while his father, Abdur Rashid, a teacher by profession has been arrested.

Manowara was dropped at Dhubri's Bazar Town Police Outpost by an unidentified person.

The police is on the lookout for the absconding accused Safikul Islam while carrying forward with their interrogation with Safikul's father Abdur Rashid.
