New Delhi: Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik asked the Central government to accept the farmer's demand for a Minimum Support Price (MSP) law.
He additionally asks the government to form a proper committee to look after the development. He further praised the Narendra Modi-led government for finding a solution for farmers' ongoing protest and crisis.
However, he said that it would have been better for the farmers if the government had taken this decision earlier.
Thousands of farmers from different parts of India had protested for nearly a year. They have protested against three controversial farm laws that the Centre had passed in 2020.
Surprisingly, last week Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the withdrawal of the laws. On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet formally approved the withdrawal of the farm laws.
As per sources, the Centre will now propose 'The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021' throughout the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.

However, farm leaders indicated that the agitation would continue until the laws were officially withdrawn. Governor Malik further pointed out that the government has met not all of the demands put forth by the farmers.
"MSP is their basic demand. Government should accept this demand and form a committee. If they do it, farmers will withdraw their protest," he added.
Malik asked farmers to "get certainty on MSP & panels created to address other concerns and then decide to go home."
