New Delhi: Amid the increasing cases of Omicron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a high-level meeting to review the covid-19 situation in the country here on Thursday.

Reportedly, so far, the country has reported a total of 213 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Delhi topped the tally with 57 cases of the new covid variant, followed by Maharashtra at 54 cases, Telangana at 24 cases, Karnataka at 19 cases, Rajasthan at 18 Kerala at 15 and Gujarat at 14.

As per the health ministry report, till now, 15 states have reported the new variant of covid19.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry, in a letter to the states and Union Territories (UT), warns about the new covid variant.

In its letter, it stated that according to scientific findings, Omicron is three times more contagious than the Delta variant. So, it asked all the states and UTs to resume their night curfew, impose strict restrictions on public gatherings, and bring down the number of marriage functions.

Moreover, the letter also asked all the states and UTs to activate covid war rooms and closely track the Omicron cases.
