Digital Desk: Kerala police are going to provide guns handling training to persons who either hold a gun licence or have applied for one. The project is a first of its sort, and it comes on the heels of the government's recent decision to allow local governments to slaughter crop-invading wild boars.

Many people complained about a lack of skilled shooters after the new directive to empower local agencies went into effect, and stated they were compelled to seek police assistance. There were also a few occurrences involving unintentional firing.

Courses are available in a variety of lengths. The most intensive is a three-month intensive coaching programme that will cost 25,000, according to a state police circular. Police training colleges will provide instruction, and regular classes will begin next month. Candidates must provide information and explain why they are taking the course before registering.

According to a circular issued by Kerala Director General of Police Anil Kant, a candidate must undergo police verification to confirm that no criminal proceedings against him or her are pending. A medical certificate demonstrating mental and physical fitness should also be provided by the candidate. Certificates will be awarded to those who successfully complete the training.
