According to the new security arrangement, the former cricketer would be guarded by 8 to 10 police officers, according to the official.

Digital Desk: According to a top official, the West Bengal government has agreed to raise former Indian cricket team captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly's security cover to Z category.

The decision was made on Tuesday, following the expiration of Mr Ganguly's employment as Y category security.

"As the VVIP's security cover expired, a review was conducted in accordance with protocol, and it was decided to raise Ganguly's security cordon to Z category," he explained.

According to the new security arrangement, the former cricketer would be guarded by 8 to 10 police officers, according to the official.

Mr Ganguly used to have three Special Branch police officers in his perimeter and an equivalent number of law enforcers guarding his Behala residence under the Y category security protection.

On Tuesday, state secretariat personnel visited Mr Ganguly's Behala office and spoke with authorities from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar and the local police station, he added.

"Mr Ganguly is currently on tour with his Delhi Daredevils team and will return to Kolkata on May 21." "From that day forward, he will have Z category security," the official stated.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor C V Ananda Bose, and Trinamool Congress MP and national secretary Abhishek Banerjee all have Z Plus protection, while ministers such as Firhad Hakim and Moloy Ghatak have Z security.

Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the BJP in West Bengal, is likewise protected by Z Plus and CISF.
