Awareness is the key to early detection and effective treatment.
Digital Desk: A Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme was successfully conducted by the Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies (CSCWS) at Tezpur University (TU) in the University’s Council Hall. The event served as part of the International Women’s Day week-long celebratory activities.
The program combined breast cancer educational outreach with cost-free diagnostics for students, TU employees, hostel caretakers, menial staff, and security guards. The event received participants from more than 200 participants who had opportunities for both the awareness sessions and screening activities supervised by a medical team consisting of five members at the University Health Centre.
Dr Madhurima Goswami as the Head of the Centre for Women Studies delivered both the welcome speech and delivered a presentation about women's health in addition to advocating for complete medical care and routine testing.
The event was honored by Dr Venkata Pradeep Babu Koyyala as Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Oncology at Shankara Research and Cancer Institute and his medical team members. Dr Venkata delivered an address which focused on early detection and awareness as the fundamental elements in fighting breast cancer. Breast and ovarian cancer affect women more frequently with age becoming a contributing risk factor according to him. Early detection of breast cancer depends on knowledge among the public which leads to successful medical treatment. The speaker pointed out greater expenses for cancer treatment while recommending participants to invest in medical insurance because it serves as protection.
Prof Shambhu Nath Singh gave the initial speech as Vice-Chancellor at TU to informed that an Indian woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every four minutes. The speaker praised the initiative along with encouraging everyone to share this message.
