Digital Desk: On a sad note, a wild elephant was hit by a goods train near Mirza, Kamrup, on Thursday. The wild jumbo has been identified as a male and around 7-year-old.  The tragic incident occurred after a few hours of noon on Thursday. The train carrying goods was travelling from Guwahati to Delhi. The wild elephant was crossing the railway track in Uparpara Gokhaikhat near Mirza. The forest area covered under that region comes under Palasbari. According to the railway authorities, "There was no information regarding the crossing of wild elephants near the railway track. A 30 kmph speed restriction is in place. Better measures shall be taken." Moreover, Kamrup Divisional forest officer Rohini Sakia also commented on the incident. Saikia stated that the area is an wild elephant movement zone. Wild jumbos from the Rani Reserve Forest often take these tracks for crossings. Patrolling is generally carried out. However, on Thursday morning, it was raining, due to which tracking was undetected.  Such incidents of wild animals coming out of their natural habitat and making appearances in public places have become common these days. The major reason for such issues is deforestation, lack of food for animals and climatic changes.
