Digital Desk: Two women doctors hailing from Nagpur got engaged and vowed to stay together for a lifetime. The same-sex couple shared with ANI about how they came out of their closet and revealed their true identity to the society. The couple also stated that they are planning to get married in Goa very soon.

In India, same-sex couples cannot register their marriage under the law, although the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality in 2018.

“ We call this relationship ‘lifetime commitment’. We are planning out wedding in Goa.”Paromita Mukherjee, one of the woman, stated to ANI.

Paromita Mukherjee also stated, “My father came to know about my sexual orientation since 2013, but my mother was unaware of it. However, when I told my mother about this recently, the mother was shocked, but she accepted it to my delight.”

Surbhi Mitra, the second lady doctor who is in a relationship with Paromita Mukherjee, is also very happy with this relationship. She said, “Despite knowing my sexual orientation, my family never objected to it. I am a psychiatrist and many people have told me to lead a double life because they cannot take a stand for themselves. In such a situation, when I told my parents about this, they recognized my happiness.”

These two women doctors are breaking all social barriers to propagate that love has no gender.
