Lakshahira Das was born on February 13, 1931 in Sualkuchi to Late Chandra Baishya Saud and Dhaijyobala Baishya. 

Digital Desk: Eminent litterateur, singer, poet, lyricist, and doyen of Assamese culture Dr. Lakshahira Das passed away at the age of 94 in the early hours of Saturday at her residence in Rajgarh, Guwahati. She breathed her last following a cardiac arrest.

Lakshahira Das was born on February 13, 1931 in Sualkuchi to Late Chandra Baishya Saud and Dhaijyobala Baishya. She was the mother of popular ghazal singer Anirban Das. Das was a recognized lyricist for Guwahati Akashvani (All India Radio).

She wrote many books including Prathama, Gitarghya, Lakshahirar Geet, Pranor Muktidhara, Tapashi, Prangangha, Surya aru Sagoror Sadhu, etc. She received the Best Playback Singer Award for the movie Lachit Barphukan in 1968. Lakshahira Das was also the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award. 
 
She retired as the Head Professor of the Department of Education of Gauhati University in 1993. She represented Assam and India in various conferences at national and international level.

She was the only Assamese woman to be honoured at the Akashvani Guwahati Center by All India Radio  as a singer, composer, and lyricist at the same time in 1948.
