Tanuja Samarth, an actress, and Shomu Mukherjee, a filmmaker, welcomed Kajol to the world on August 5, 1974, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Kajol completed her schooling at St Joseph’s Convent School, Panchgani. In 1999, Kajol got married to Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn.

She made her acting debut in 1992 with Bekhudi at the very young age of 17, and her performance was appreciated. She appeared in Shah Rukh Khan's Baazigar shortly after the year.
