Digital Desk: French actor Gaspard Ulliel died at 37 on Wednesday after a skiing accident in the Alps. He was recognized for appearing in Chanel perfume advertising and film and television roles.
Gaspard Ulliel starred as a young Hannibal Lecter in 2007's Hannibal Rising and as fashion entrepreneur Yves Saint Laurent in 2014's biopic Saint Laurent. He also starred in the upcoming Marvel Series Moon Knight and was the face of Chanel's men's fragrance Bleu de Chanel's advertising campaign.
According to the Savoie prosecutor's office, Ulliel was taken to the hospital following the accident in the Savoie region's Rosiere ski slope on Tuesday. However, he breathed his last on Wednesday, informed the actor's agent's office.
According to local radio station France Bleu, the actor was taken to the hospital with a skull injury after colliding with another skier at a slope crossing point. But the other skier was not sent to the hospital.
Reportedly, till now, the police has not discussed in-depth about the accident.
The mountain police unit that serves the accident site said it has been leading five or six rescues every day in recent days as the snow has solidified.
On the other hand, a 5-year-old girl was killed in the adjacent Haute-Savoie region on Saturday after a skier collided with her.
According to the prosecutor of Haute-Savoie, the man was charged with preliminary manslaughter, citing high speed as the likely cause of the tragedy.
