After a box office hit, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram creates records on OTT

The film raked in more than Rs 400 crore from its global ticket sales, causing a box office avalanche. The movie is estimated to have made an astounding Rs 300 crore in India alone.

Digital Desk: Vikram, the most recent
hit from Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, has become one of the most popular films
on the streaming service Disney Plus Hotstar. The film was released last week
and had the most successful opening weekend in terms of audience.

    A
tweet from Disney+ Hotstar Tamil stated, "# Vikram-The highest ever
opening weekend viewership, subscription and viewing time on Disney+
    Hotstar."

    The
most successful film in Kamal Haasan's career, which spans more than six
decades, is called Vikram. The film raked in more than Rs 400 crore from its
global ticket sales, causing a box office avalanche. The movie is estimated to
have made an astounding Rs 300 crore in India alone.

    The
Baahubali: The Conclusion collection record, which had stood at the Tamil Nadu
box office for five years, was also broken by Vikram. Vikram outperformed
Baahubali 2 in the state, where it had made over Rs 150 crore, by earning over
Rs 170 crore in just four weeks after its release.

    Lokesh
Kanagaraj is the author and director of the film Vikram. The action drama
centres on a former spy's battle against the Tamil Nadu narcotics cartel. It is
a riff on the spy role that Kamal Haasan originally developed for his 1986
action film Vikram. The supporting cast of the movie featured A-list actors
like Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil. One of the highlight of the movie was
Suriya’s last-minute cameo as the ruthless mafia boss, Rolex.

    Kanagaraj will reportedly expand the
world of Vikram with standalone movies with other actors.
