After images appeared that claimed to show Jacqueline dating Sukesh, she was questioned. She has been interrogated several times regarding the case.
Digital Desk: The actor's
attorney has asserted that Jacqueline Fernandez is innocent, a day after she
was identified as a suspect in a 200-crore extortion case linked to con man
Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Her legal team clarified in a statement that Jacqueline
is really the victim of the crime and shouldn't be treated like an accuser.
Jacqueline was one of the defendants in the case according to the Enforcement
Directorate (ED).
Chandrashekhar is accused by
the ED of extorting money from prominent individuals, including Aditi Singh,
the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, in order
to buy gifts for Jacqueline.
Sukesh Chandrasekhar had
given Jacqueline Fernandez a number of presents totaling 5.71 crore rupees from
the proceeds of crime, according to a statement from the ED. After images
appeared that claimed to show Jacqueline dating Sukesh, she was questioned. She
has been interrogated several times regarding the case.
You have to grasp the
humanitarian side of this, Jacqueline's attorney Prashant Patil stated in a
statement to the media. It hurts and is unfair when someone is charged with a
false crime even when they are innocent. It's unfair to punish Jacqueline with
such false accusations without first hearing her side of the story. The ED's
evidence has not been read by anyone.
The totality of the evidence
points to her innocence. Every person has the right to live with dignity,
whether they are a famous person or a regular person. She has put in a
tremendous amount of effort throughout her life to succeed in her profession.
Such baseless accusations do nothing except harm the reputation.
Another statement made by
the attorney asserted that Jacqueline was the victim in this case and
emphasised her willingness to cooperate with law enforcement. "To the best
of her ability, she has provided the ED with all the facts. The authorities
don't seem to understand that she was defrauded and duped into this situation.
She is a target of a broader criminal plot, "explained he.
In addition to the 15 lakh
dollars in cash, the ED temporarily attached the actor's finances under the
PMLA in April because it deemed them to be "proceeds of crime."
Following news that Jacqueline would reportedly be charged in the case, the
actor sent a mysterious note on social media on Wednesday with the message
"it'll all be okay" written to "dear me." Jacqueline hasn't
spoken out about it yet, though.
