Lost Jobs, Role in Aquaman 2 Have Been Reduced after breakup with Johnny Depp: Amber Heard

Digital Desk: Amber Heard testified that she had to “fight really hard” to continue her work in Hollywood after her tumultuous breakup with Johnny Depp.

On Monday, Heard took the stand for the third time in Depp’s defamation trial, accusing him of orchestrating a “smear campaign” to harm her career and image after she got a domestic violence restraining order against him in 2016. Heard claimed that Depp’s “advanced PR machine” tried to brand her a liar in the press, leading to her being fired from playing roles and beauty sponsorships.

While Heard did eventually star in Justice League in 2017, which she described as the “greatest cinematic chance” of her career, she stated she had to fight for the role. She also gave testimony.

Meanwhile, Amber further stated that her role in Aquaman 2 was significantly reduced after the alleged attacks from Depp’s team in the press.

It is to be noted that Heard told the court, “I had to fight incredibly hard to retain my career when I got my restraining order against Depp,” Amber Heard told the court. I squandered opportunities. I was fired from both jobs and campaigns. I struggled to keep my job and the biggest film chance I’d ever had [with] Justice League, which included the possibility of [starring in] Aquaman. Because I was going through a divorce at the time, I had to work pretty hard to stay in Justice League.”

Moreover, Amber claimed that the film’s studio, Warner Bros, didn’t want to incorporate her. She also revealed that she ended up in a “very pared-down version” of her character Mera’s original Aquaman 2 scenario. 

It may e mentioned that Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 on her experiences as a domestic violence survivor. Although Heard never names Depp by name, his lawyers believe that references to their client (and Heard’s earlier abuse allegations before their 2017 divorce) are obvious and have harmed Depp’s career and reputation. 

Notably, Heard filed a $100 million countersuit, claiming Depp and his legal team defamed her by calling her allegations false.

It must be noted that Heard and Depp met in 2009 and started dating a few years later. In 2015, they got married. However, they finalized their divorce in 2017.
