When Priyanka Chopra wanted to keep an abandoned baby girl but was told not to

Digital Desk: Priyanka Chopra is now a mother to baby girl whom she welcomed through surrogacy in January. Since her stylist's daughter Krishna Sky was born, the star has been quite close to her. Long before she won Miss World and went on to become an actor, she encountered an abandoned female child as a youngster and begged her mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, to let the baby stay with them. Before being given off to a childless couple, Priyanka cradled the infant in her arms.

Priyanka wrote about it in her memoir Unfinished. It was from the moment when the actor awoke one night to investigate the disturbance in her home.

Priyanka wrote in her book, “My grandmother, who had come to live with us when Sid was born, was up and speaking in a low voice to my mother, who seemed to be racing around the house. Groggy with sleep, I got up to see what was going on and found Mom in the kitchen cradling a newborn in her arms. She told me that after the delivery, when she'd returned to her car parked on the road outside the hospital, she'd heard the sound of a baby crying. To her complete shock, while the rain was coming down in torrents someone had abandoned a newborn girl under the vehicle. That night, I desperately wanted for us to keep the baby, this impossibly tiny thing swaddled in my brother's clothes. Gently, my mother explained that we couldn't.”

Priyanka claimed that her mother made the decision to give the kid to a couple who were childless. She held the baby in her arms as they drove to the couple's house to hand her away. "There would be a lot of legal paperwork to fill out, but I was too busy holding the baby in my arms as we drove through the stormy night to the home of that waiting couple. I'll never forget their expressions, how the mother dropped to her knees in thanks, how they both sobbed at the miracle of a baby appearing out of nowhere, in the pouring rain, during the Janmashtami holiday "She penned something.
