Digital Desk: With 6,168 new coronavirus infections reported in a single day, India's total COVID-19 case count increased to 4,444,42,507, while active cases decreased to 59,210, according to Union Health Ministry figures released on Friday.
Till now, 5,27,932 people have died due to the infection, with 21 fatalities registered in the last 24 hours, including two deaths resolved by Kerala, according to data updated at 8 a.m.
The active cases accounted for 0.13 percent of total infections, with 98.68 percent of previously infected people able to battle the infection, the health ministry said.
In the last 24 hours, the active covid-19 caseload has decreased by 3,538 cases.
The health ministry reported that the weekly positivity rate was 2.51 percent and the daily positivity rate was 1.94 percent.
The total number of patients who have recovered from the illness is 4,38,55,365. The current death rate stands at 1.19 percent.
So far, 212.75 crore doses of covid vaccine have been administered in the country as part of the nationwide covid-19 vaccination program, according to the ministry.
On August 7, 2020, India's covid-19 tally crossed the 20-lakh threshold, and on December 19, 2020, it surpassed the one-crore mark.
India passed the two crore mark on May 4, three crores on June 23, last year, and four crores on January 25, this year.
The 19 new deaths include four from Maharashtra, three each from Delhi and West Bengal, two from Chhattisgarh and Gujarat, and one each from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.
