Dhaka: Around Seven people died and hundreds of people were injured in an explosion at Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Sunday according to a report.
The incident took place at a building however, the authorities could not detect the nature of the explosion that damaged vehicles and surroundings buildings, the Police and Fire department said.
Fire control room official Faisalur Rahman said, “The explosion took place in the evening at a building in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area, and rescuers reached the scene.”
“At least seven buildings were damaged because of the force of the explosion.” the official added.
Confirming the number of death Dhaka Metropolitan police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said at least seven people die and the injuries were taken to the hospital.
Deputy Police Commissioner Sajjad Hossain said, “Certainly this is a big explosion. The fire service and bomb disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Unit have arrived at the scene. Their experts are working together. They are investigating the origin of the blast and the subsequent damages.”
Moreover, one of the witnesses explain about the explosion that it was a scene of destruction with glass shards and broken concrete on streets, two passengers buses were heavily damaged outside the buildings where the explosion took place.
Another witness said a fireball went over my head. Everything becomes dark and smoky with the sounds. Pieces of glass started to shower from above. If I didn’t use this cover i.e. a folder bag as a cover, I would’ve been under the glass pieces. Allah saved me from them.
According to Dhaka based Ekattor TV Station the condition of 10 of the injured was critical among them about 50 taken to the hospital.
According to the police report, it is suspected that the main building where the explosion took place had a fast food shop so a faulty gas line or gas cylinders used by the shop could be the reason behind the blast.
