Digital Desk: U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has officially entered the race for the 2024 presidential election, promising a "people-powered campaign" aimed at securing victory in November.
Announcing her candidacy on the social media platform X, Harris expressed her determination to earn every vote. "Today, I signed the forms officially declaring my candidacy for President of the United States. I will work hard to earn every vote. And in November, our people-powered campaign will win," she stated.
Harris will be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming election, following President Joe Biden's endorsement and his recent withdrawal from the race. Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have also lent their support to Harris.
Obama took to X to announce their backing, stating, "Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris. We told her we think she'll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we're going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you'll join us."
Adding to her support, prominent Democratic fundraiser and actor George Clooney endorsed Harris for the presidency earlier this week. President Biden, in a statement from the Oval Office, praised Harris as a "great vice president," highlighting her experience and leadership. "She's been an incredible partner to me and a leader for our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people," Biden said.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also backed Harris, affirming that she is the most qualified candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Harris and her campaign's efforts to connect with voters across the nation.
