‘Our grounds were used as wedding venues…that difficult period has passed’: Shahid Afridi on the state of Pakistan Cricket
Afridi added, "That hard time is over. The groups began their journey to Pakistan. Australia and England both came. The people in our group were missing these things."

Digital Desk: Former captain of Pakistan, Shahid Afridi, thinks that Pakistan cricket's difficult time, during which the nation was unable to host games, is over.

On Samaa TV, the 45-year-old was asked to discuss how the national team's performance has changed in recent years after winning the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup final.

Afridi added, "That hard time is over. The groups began their journey to Pakistan. Australia and England both came. The people in our group were missing these things."

"Our grounds were used as wedding locations. For Pakistan cricket, it was a challenging time since we were lacking our audience. The people who worked hard to make this happen did so with great effort. The government, the board. They had a significant impact. When we travelled to play in other leagues and counties, we would try to persuade the players there that if they helped, we might revive (international) cricket (in Pakistan). When cricket was brought back, Pakistan conveyed a positive message that we love sports and want to watch and play it here," he said.

Afridi, who won the 2009 T20 World Cup with Pakistan and was named player of the tournament in the 2007 competition, added that Babar Azam and company didn't need to make many changes to improve upon their performance during the most recent World Cup campaign.

With such veteran coaches and mentors, he remarked, "We don't need to do too much surgery; you simply need to focus on key elements."
