    Russia: 17 killed after blast in explosives factory

    Moscow: On Friday, over 17 people were killed after a blast occurred in a gunpowder and explosives factory in Russia’s Ryazan region.





    What led to this accident is still unclear. It is being investigated by the local authorities. However, according to a report from Reuters news agency, the explosion was a result caused by the failure to monitor proper technical operations within the factory. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has reportedly launched a criminal investigation to find the real cause of the incident.





    The Regional Governor Nikolay Lubimov has announced a day of mourning on October 25th in Ryazan for those who lost their lives in the accident. Further, he also said that more is needed to be done in order to ensure the safety and security of those working in such hazardous industries.

    According to the reports, the incident happened in the early hours of Friday and the emergency services were alerted about this in about 8.22 AM. The whole shift of workers was present in the site when the explosion happened. The rescue workers managed to pull them out of the debris.





    The video of the moment of the blast also became viral on social media platforms. The video shows a yellow fireball and smoke rising in the air from the brick building.
