Digital Desk: US First Lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19, as stated by her communications director Elizabeth Alexander.

She is currently experiencing minor symptoms and will remain for her remaining days at the couple's residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the statement read.

Elizabeth Alexander stated, "This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach in Delaware.”

President Joe Biden went through a COVID test as well, and while the results were negative, he will still be monitored throughout the week.

"Following the First Lady’s positive test for COVID-19, President Biden was administered a COVID test this evening. The President tested negative. The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms," a White House Press release stated.

Notably, hospitalizations and cases of COVID-19 have increased in the United States during the past few weeks.

According to reports, the US has experienced a sharp increase in the new COVID-19 version EG.5. The new variety is a spinoff of the Omicron family's XBB recombinant strain.

Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, tested positive for a COVID-19 rebound case in August of last year.

Additionally, this week the US President is scheduled to visit India to attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi. The White House has confirmed that he will have a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8 on the sidelines of the summit.

According to a statement from the White House earlier this week, Biden will commend PM Modi for his leadership of the G20 during its summit on September 9 and 10 in the nation's capital.

White House said in its week-ahead schedule of the President released on September 7, "The President will travel to New Delhi, India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
