After a decades-long wait, Charles becomes King at the end of the Elizabethan era

Charles is the oldest British royal to ever ascend to the throne. For comparison's sake, his mother Elizabeth became queen at the age of 26.

Digital Desk: Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled Britain for the
longest time, passed away on Thursday. When she passed away, Charles, the
heir-to-be and former Prince of Wales, immediately ascended to the throne.

Charles has spent the majority of his life preparing for the
throne. At 73 years old, that time has finally come. The Accession Council will
formally appoint King Charles III as the new ruler on Saturday.

He will rule the UK and 14 other nations, including Australia,
Canada, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, after being crowned.
