to authorities, at least 17 individuals were discovered dead at a nightclub on
Sunday in East London, a city in southern South Africa.

Kinana, the head of the provincial police, told AFP, "We got a report of
17 (people) who perished in a local tavern in Scenery Park, which is based in
East London. He further stated that the incident's circumstances are still
being looked into by the authorities.

color:black">The circumstances behind the incident are still being probed, a
police spokesman told the news outlet Newzroom Africa.

color:black">We don't want to make any assumptions right now, Brigadier
Tembinkosi Kinana said.

Eastern Cape province.

color:black">Reports state that the family of the victims have not been let to
view their remains, and the neighbourhood has requested that the venue be
closed.

color:black">The Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, Nomthetheleli Lilian Mene,
told SABC News that "there was supposedly a stampede inside the
tavern."

Kinana, were young individuals between the ages of 18 and 20.

morgues, a representative for the Eastern Cape's health department told News24.

"We are going
to conduct autopsy as quickly as possible to ascertain the probable cause of
