The theme for the 2022 International Day of Peace
This year's theme is “End racism. Build peace.”
In every society, racism continues to contaminate institutions, social structures, and daily life, according to Secretary-General António Guterres. It still serves as a major contributor to enduring inequality. And it keeps denying people their basic human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments, and… the linkages between racism and gender inequality are unmistakable.

The United Nations Association of Japan gave the Peace Bell in 1954. Two times a year, on the vernal equinox and the first day of spring, as well as on September 21 to mark the International Day of Peace, the bell is rung.
History of the International Day of Peace
The United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Peace in 1981. The General Assembly overwhelmingly decided to designate the Day as a time of nonviolence and a cease-fire in 2001, 20 years after the original resolution was passed.
