    India's heatwave: Nutrition and diet tips to be healthy

    Dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke can all be harmful to one's health when exposed to extreme heat.


    Digital Desk: Since the start of the summer season in March this year, a large number of states have experienced extreme heat, with several locations recording maximum temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees. The current heatwave, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), is expected to worsen over the next five days.


    "Over most parts of northwest India, a rise of about two degrees Celsius in maximum temperature is very likely over the next two days," the IMD said.


    Dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke can all be harmful to one's health when exposed to extreme heat. To stay fit and healthy, you must limit your exposure to the sun, wear protective accessories and clothing, and keep your home cool. You must also adhere to certain dietary and nutritional guidelines.


    "Diet and nutrition play an important role in such a condition," says Sahiba Bhardwaj, a nutritionist and nutrition educator. Staying hydrated and eating cooling foods rather than heat-producing foods are two important ways to keep cool during a heat wave. "


    Follow these dietary guidelines:


     1) Keep these diet and nutrition tips in mind, according to Bhardwaj, to stay healthy and safe this  season.


     2) Keep yourself hydrated. When you go out, always have a bottle of water with you. 


     3) Incorporate vegetable juice, coconut water, sattu, buttermilk, and lemonade into your diet.


    4) Caffeinated beverages dehydrate the body, so avoid them.


    5) Consume hydrating foods such as cucumbers, watermelon, muskmelon, and tomatoes.


    6) Cooling and hydrating celery and cucumber juice with fresh mint.





    7) Watermelon is a seasonal fruit that contains a lot of water.


    8) Tomatoes are hydrating and contain a high amount of vitamin C.


    9) Fennel seeds are cooling and can be consumed in the morning in the form of fennel seed water.


    10) Cumin seeds are also cooling and can be added to juices or consumed in the morning with water.


    11) Curd and curd-based foods are cooling and beneficial to one's health.

    Throughout April, the trend of unusually hot weather continues until the end of the month.
