Digital Desk: Many people have weight loss on their to-do list, but they are not always effective in losing unwanted weight and getting in shape. Why? Some people commit a basic mistake when they equate losing weight with being punished. They decide to consume less food, give up on their favourite meals, and eventually, give in to the inevitable guilt-eating.

Then some individuals choose tight diets to see results more quickly. Experts have repeatedly advised against these since they are all ineffective.

Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar stated in an Instagram post that individuals should avoid the following mistakes when trying to reduce weight:

    1. Avoid using it as your only project.
    2. Don't view the process of adaption as a failure (12 weeks for a response to sustained stimuli).
    3. Avoid using exercise as a punishment.
    4. Avoid making it illegal to eat.
    5. Stop counting every calorie, step, and kilogramme.

Diwekar advised people to be patient with their results and to stop obsessing over weight loss. Consistency and achieving peace with food are essential.

She also made some important remarks about what someone can do when they are on their weight-loss journey in a separate post:

    1. Always eat when you are hungry.
    2. Schedule an exercise session.
    3. Do make an effort to get to bed on time.
    4. Bear sustainability in mind when making decisions.
    5. Do continue to enjoy every aspect of a full life. Friends, family, travel, work, etc.

The expert had previously provided a thorough list of nine common blunders people make when trying to lose weight that impede their success. She stated in it that although some people are eager to lose weight, the body takes around 12 weeks to adjust to anything new, such as a change in diet or exercise routine. You must give yourself that much time.

She also talked about the importance of sleep, emphasising that it should always be prioritised if one wants to shed some body fat and should never be undervalued.
