Why is Navratri celebrated over nine days in 2022? Find out what you need to know

Digital Desk: Only a few days left till Navratri, or the nine nights of the Goddess. Everyone is pleased to welcome the Goddess into their homes. The festival of Navratri honours the Goddess Durga, also known as Shakti - the greatest Goddess. 

This year, Navratri will begin on September 26, 2022, and end on October 5, 2022. Devotees worship the many manifestations of Goddess Durga during these nine nights. The celebration concludes on the tenth day, Vijayadashami.

When the three most powerful Hindu gods—Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva—saw this dilemma, they decided to unite and create the goddess Durga, who would be powerful and strong enough to slay Mahishasura. Before going into battle with Mahishasura, the gods bestowed numerous weapons on Goddess Durga.

For ten days, the demon fought Goddess Durga. These ten days were extremely trying for Goddess Durga. During this time, Mahishasura was continuously changing his shape in order to deceive the goddess Durga. 

Goddess Durga was able to win him over when he finally transformed into a buffalo. As a result, Goddess Durga conquered Mahishasura and triumphed over the demons in this manner.

Some devotees also fast during the nine days of Navratri. During the festivities, there is also a lot of Garba dance! During Navratri, some individuals also do Dandiya Raas. Everyone, from the elderly to the children, celebrates Navratri with enthusiasm and excitement.
