New Delhi: National carrier Air India left the baggage of 40 passengers at the Indira Gandhi International airport while flying off to Chicago.
The incident that was reported by one of the passengers on Twitter, has left the aviation ministry red-faced, seeking a report of the incident from Air India.
The AI 127 Delhi Chicago flight took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport to Chicago on August 29.
Unable to find the baggage, a passenger of AI 127 Delhi Chicago, Manmohan, wrote in his Twitter handle tagging Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
He wrote, "AI 127 Delhi Chicago. Flight lands without the luggage of 40 passengers. Imagine the plight of those people in these difficult times."
Soon after, the Aviation minister tweeted, "Air India, please investigate and respond."
Later, the Air India authority reacting to Minister Scindia's tweet said, informed the complaint and initiated the inquiry against the baggage misplaced issues of the passengers.
AI Tweeted, "We are checking this with our Chicago baggage team to address this on priority."
A passenger of AI- 127 speaking to ANI said, "In this time of the pandemic, we cannot travel with excess weight in hand baggage. Therefore, we packed our luggage and my important documents in my luggage, which the Air India flight took us to Chicago without baggage."
"I am facing difficulty in Chicago as everything was in my luggage, including my college documents, clothes, and daily items." added the passengers.
The Air India team prepared an initial report on the misplaced baggage issues to be placed before the Aviation Minister.
Air India official said, "Due to long routes they are being chartered now, there are payload restrictions for which some of the baggage may not get loaded, but we are putting all our effort to send the same expeditiously."
