Jailed Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh's parents meet him at Dibrugarh jail, expect his release after election win

Digital Desk: The recent parliamentary polls in Punjab witnessed a remarkable turn of events as Amritpal Singh, a prominent activist incarcerated in Dibrugarh Central Jail, emerged victorious from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. Despite facing incarceration since March 2023, Amritpal's resounding victory by a staggering margin of 1,97,120 votes as an independent candidate reflects the unwavering support he enjoys among his constituents.

Amidst the jubilation surrounding his electoral triumph, Amritpal's parents, Tarsem Singh, and Balwinder Kaur, arrived in Dibrugarh on Saturday to meet their son, buoyed by the news of his unprecedented electoral success. Welcomed by Amritpal's wife Kirandeep Kaur, who has been steadfastly supporting him since June 5, the family's reunion at the jail premises was a poignant moment, brimming with emotions of pride and joy.

Expressing their elation, Tarsem Singh remarked, "We are very happy that our son has won the elections. We have come to meet him so that he will also feel happy that people love him and elected him by such a huge margin." His mother, Balwinder Kaur, distributed sweets to the jail employees, symbolizing their collective celebration of Amritpal's triumph against all odds.

As preparations ensue for Amritpal's oath-taking ceremony as a Member of Parliament, his family ensured he was equipped with the necessary attire, bringing a new set of clothes and shoes for the occasion. Accompanied by advocate and former Punjab MP Rajdeo Singh Khalsa, efforts are underway to secure Amritpal's release through legal avenues, underscoring the collective determination to reunite him with his loved ones and constituents.

Khalsa attributed Amritpal's landslide victory to his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to public welfare, particularly his initiatives towards a drug-free Punjab through the Amrit Sanchar movement. However, he raised concerns regarding Amritpal's arrest, alleging it to be politically motivated and unconstitutional.

Despite facing adversity, Amritpal's victory at the polls serves as a testament to the overwhelming support he commands from his constituents, transcending the barriers of confinement.
