Digital Desk: Delhi witnessed scorching temperatures on Wednesday as the mercury soared to 39.1 degrees Celsius, marking the highest maximum temperature recorded in the city so far this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This figure stood four notches above the season's average. Conversely, the minimum temperature in the national capital dipped to around 17 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, as reported by the IMD.
Looking ahead, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky for Thursday, with temperatures expected to hover around 39 and 19 degrees Celsius for the maximum and minimum, respectively.
Meanwhile, an 'Orange alert' has been issued by the IMD for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh, anticipating heavy rainfall/snowfall over the upcoming weekend. Specifically, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall on April 13th and 14th.
Additionally, a 'hailstorm' alert has been issued for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan for April 13, with a similar alert extended to western Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan for April 14.
Over the Central Highlands, the IMD predicts a continuation of light to moderate rainfall spells accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until April 12. Isolated hailstorms are expected over West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan on April 14.
Furthermore, parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra may experience hailstorms on April 11 and 12, as per the IMD's forecasts.
Notably, the IMD's weather predictions paint a varied picture across different regions, with Delhi experiencing scorching temperatures, while hill states brace for heavy rainfall/snowfall and parts of northern and central India prepare for potential hailstorms and thunderstorms in the coming days.
