Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a viral video that sparked controversy. The video, recorded during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Jharkhand, captures Gandhi petting a puppy and later requesting biscuits for the furry companion.

In the clip, as supporters approach Gandhi, he exchanges greetings while continuing to feed the puppy. Notably, a moment unfolds when he offers a biscuit to the puppy, but it turns away, leading Gandhi to hand it to a supporter. The video, not shared by the official Bharat Jodo Yatra handle, has since gone viral, with accusations that the Congress leader mistreated his supporters.

Amidst the online craze, some users suggested that the puppy belonged to the supporter Mr. Gandhi interacted with, and the biscuits were meant for the furry friend. This perspective contrasts with the criticism the Congress leader faced for allegedly disregarding party workers.

The controversy triggered responses from BJP leaders, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seizing the opportunity to reiterate his longstanding criticism of Rahul Gandhi. Sarma recalled an incident where, during a meeting, Mr. Gandhi's pet dog Pidi reportedly ate biscuits from a shared plate, emphasizing his decision to leave the Congress.

In response to a user's tag, Sarma asserted, "Not only Rahul Gandhi but the entire family could not make me eat that biscuit," underlining his pride as an Assamese and Indian. He declared his refusal to eat the biscuit and his subsequent resignation from the Congress, portraying the incident as emblematic of Mr. Gandhi's alleged lack of seriousness in party matters.

The viral video fueled criticism from other BJP leaders as well. Amit Malviya emphasized the impact of Mr. Gandhi's behavior on the party, suggesting that treating party workers poorly could contribute to the decline of the Congress.

This incident adds another layer to the ongoing political exchanges between the two leaders, reflecting the complex dynamics of Indian politics. As the video continues to circulate, it remains to be seen how it may influence public perception and political narratives in the broader context of the evolving political landscape.
