BJP lost 63 seats, paid very heavy price for throttling voice of one MP: TMC’s Mahua Moitra attacks Modi govt
She highlighted that there are only 74 women MPs currently, with the BJP holding merely 30 out of 240 seats. In contrast, she noted that the TMC had 37% women MPs previously and 38% now.

Digital Desk: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra criticized the BJP-led NDA government on Monday for her suspension during the last Lok Sabha session, suggesting that the BJP suffered a significant electoral setback due to their attempt to silence her.

Speaking during a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address to Parliament, Moitra, who represents the Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal, asserted that the BJP would not be able to repeat its treatment of the opposition from the previous session.

"When I last spoke, I was prevented from doing so. The ruling party paid a heavy electoral price for silencing one MP," PTI quoted Moitra as saying, referring to her suspension in the previous session.

"In their effort to silence me, the public silenced them, resulting in the loss of 63 BJP MPs... mujhko bithane ke chakkar mein janta ne aapko bitha diya, aapke 63 MPs loss kar diya," Moitra stated, setting a defiant tone.

Moitra also criticized the installation of the Sengol in Parliament, likening it to a symbol of monarchy incompatible with democracy.

She further emphasized that the BJP's minority government lacked stability due to its dependence on allies, suggesting it could collapse at any time.

"The BJP's 'raj tantra' has been curtailed by the 'lok tantra' of this country. This is an unstable government relying on allies known for their frequent policy reversals. We are 234 warriors now, having endured trials. You will not treat us as you did before," she asserted.

Addressing the omission of key issues, Moitra took aim at the Modi government for neglecting critical concerns in the President's speech.

"The President's address covered six themes. Despite a fourfold increase in the Northeast budget, 'Manipur' was conspicuously absent. During campaigning, the Prime Minister mentioned 'Muslim', 'madrassa', 'mutton', 'fish', and 'mujra' but never 'Manipur'. We don't need you to just look East or act East; we need you to work East and, most importantly, embrace East," she remarked.

On the topic of women's empowerment, Moitra challenged the government's claims, stating, "This is entirely false. You delayed parliamentary reservations because you fear 'naari shakti'."

She highlighted that there are only 74 women MPs currently, with the BJP holding merely 30 out of 240 seats. In contrast, she noted that the TMC had 37% women MPs previously and 38% now.

"While we have empowered three lakh 'lakhpati didis', the BJP seems more focused on creating 'arabpati dadas'," Moitra remarked.
Regarding Kashmir, Moitra questioned the decision to abrogate Article 370, pointing out inconsistencies in the BJP's electoral strategy and developmental delays in Ladakh.

Critiquing the government's infrastructure initiatives, she raised concerns about railway safety and mishaps, and criticized the rushed implementation of projects for the sake of photo opportunities.

"Our aviation sector has become a domestic hazard hub, with newly constructed airports experiencing canopy collapses and flooding in the Pragati Maidan tunnel. This is the consequence of poorly planned infrastructure rushed for the supreme leader's photo opportunities," she concluded.
