Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee also questioned why central investigation authorities have not been interested in the homes of BJP officials.
Digital Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre on Thursday, calling the probe agency searches targeting opposition leaders "a dirty political game." The leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticised the BJP, saying, "BJP claims to desire 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas,' but what it means is 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Satyanash."
Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee also questioned why central investigation authorities have not been interested in the homes of BJP officials. Federalism, or the sharing of authority within the government, should be preserved, the prime minister should guarantee, according to her.
ON ED SUMMONS TO THE SON OF ASHOK GEHLOT
The Enforcement Directorate has called Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, over a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) case. Gehlot questioned the agency's summons in an exclusive interview with India Today TV, questioning its timing in light of the November Rajasthan poll.
A fierce Banerjee reacted to the ED's raid on a prominent Congress leader by saying, "Ashok Gehlot is not from my party, so why attack his residence before the elections? I respect the judiciary. But the BJP headquarters is issuing some directives to subordinate courts. I beseech the Prime Minister to ensure the preservation of federalism."
"The agency went to the home of Firhad Hakim and began emptying sugar jars." All the sarees and makeup are being photographed. But have any BJP leaders' homes been searched yet?" she asked.
"In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, there is an election; you fight it politically. How many individuals are you planning to lock up? Even then, you won't receive a vote to win elections," the Trinamool chief said.
ED RAIDS AT JYOTIPRIYO MALLICK'S HOUSE
In the course of its investigation into the purported multi-crore ration distribution scam, the ED raided the homes of TMC minister Jyotipriya Mallick and others on Thursday. As part of an investigation into possible money laundering related to the matter of exam paper leaks, it also raided the Jaipur and Sikar residences of Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra.
"Kya atyachar, kya anachar chal raha hai?" (What crimes and chaos are occurring?)Ahh... In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections (2024), the BJP is engaging in a shady operation on the pretext of ED raids on opposition leaders across the nation. I would like to know if any BJP leader's home has ever been the target of one of these raids. "Oh," she said.
In addition, the West Bengal chief minister threatened to report the BJP and ED to the police if Mallick was harmed in any way by the searches conducted at his Kolkata residences.
“Jyotipriyo has high sugar. If he dies, I will have to file a FIR against BJP, ED. He is not well,” Banerjee said.
MAMATA ON BHARAT-INDIA ROW
Banerjee also said that the BJP was trying to alter the course of the nation's history by enacting a number of misguided laws, such as demonetisation and the GST, "like Mohammad bin Tughlak," a whimsical mediaeval monarch. The TMC chief also criticised NCERT for deciding to change the name of India in school textbooks to "Bharat" instead of "India."
"What is the NCERT? Who is in charge there? It's an essential component of the government. All of a sudden, they requested to replace India's name with Bharat. Why would you sever India's name? Bharat and India are here to stay. They're sending out a notice to remove India from the list. Why is there so much anxiety? Why, India, because we have a front? "Jeetega Bharat" is another slogan we have," Mamata Banerjee added.
"We are in charge now, but it won't last long. Don't make mistakes that next generations will have to deal with. "Did they send Yogi's written books to schools?" she said.
"They consumed the symbol of Uddhav, who separated from the Shiv Sena. They will struggle to regain the national prestige that my party formerly held, Mamata stated.
