    COVID-19: India records 841 cases amid JN.1 sub-variant spike
The data indicated that, as of 8 am, there were 4,309 active cases, up from 3,997 the previous day.

Digital Desk: The Union Health Ministry on Sunday stated that 841 new COVID-19 cases have been detected in India. In the last 227 days, or nearly seven months, this is the biggest jump rise.

The data indicated that, as of 8 am, there were 4,309 active cases, up from 3,997 the previous day. Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar have each reported one death from the illness, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to three.

The number of daily cases had fallen to double digits prior to December 5, indicating the end of a stretch of comparatively low infection rates. The advent of the coronavirus JN.1 sub-variant and colder temperatures have been linked to the recent increase in incidence.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic that began in January 2020, India has reported 4.50 crore (4,50,13,272) cases and 5,33,361 deaths.

India has a good recovery rate (98.81%); 4,44 crore (4,44,75,602) people have recovered from the disease, despite the current increase in cases.

As part of its countrywide vaccination campaign, the country has administered over 220.67 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the health ministry.

For elderly people and those with comorbidities, experts have advised wearing face masks and staying away from crowded locations; nonetheless, they have emphasized that public health measures are not required at this time.

Nine states had recorded 178 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant as of Friday. Goa had the greatest number of cases, with 47, followed by Kerala with 41.

In addition, the states of Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Delhi have reported 36, 34, and 9 JN.1 cases, respectively.
