Digital Desk: In a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in Tripura, a landmark Memorandum of Settlement was signed on Wednesday in New Delhi between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and two major insurgent groups—the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).

The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and witnessed the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and senior officials from both the central and state governments.

The signing of this peace accord represents a crucial breakthrough in the efforts to end decades of insurgency-related violence in the northeastern state of Tripura. The agreement is seen as a major step towards addressing the long-standing conflict and fostering a more secure and stable environment in the region.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing peace and development in the Northeast. Shah emphasized that this agreement is another milestone in the government’s strategy to integrate insurgent groups into the mainstream, aiming to create a conducive atmosphere for progress and development. He highlighted the government's continuous efforts to address regional conflicts through diplomatic and peaceful means, marking a significant shift towards stability in a region long plagued by unrest.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed profound gratitude towards Home Minister Shah for his crucial role in promoting peace and prosperity in the Northeast. Saha reflected on the decade of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting that it has been marked by several key peace agreements across the region. He highlighted that Tripura has benefitted from three significant accords, emphasizing the positive impact of these agreements on the state’s development.

Saha commended the NLFT and ATTF for their decision to renounce violence and join the state’s developmental journey. He praised the insurgent groups for their commitment to peace, which he believes will pave the way for a brighter future for Tripura. The Chief Minister expressed optimism about the agreement’s potential to transform Tripura’s socio-economic landscape, reinforcing the state’s path towards stability and growth.

“The future of Tripura is promising under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the steadfast guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah,” Saha remarked. His statement reflects the optimism shared by many in the region regarding the potential benefits of this historic agreement. The peace accord is expected to foster a more secure environment, encourage economic development, and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Tripura.

The MoS with the NLFT and ATTF is a testament to the government's dedicated efforts to resolve insurgency issues through dialogue and negotiation. The agreement aims to address the underlying causes of the insurgency and provide a framework for the integration of former insurgents into the socio-political and economic mainstream. It also underscores the government's commitment to ensuring long-term peace and development in Tripura and the broader Northeast region.

The successful conclusion of this peace agreement is anticipated to bring about positive changes in the region, contributing to national stability and development. It represents a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to address and resolve conflicts through peaceful means, setting a precedent for similar initiatives in other conflict-affected areas.

As Tripura moves forward with this new chapter of peace, the collective hope is that the agreement will lead to lasting stability, prosperity, and harmony in the state, benefitting its people and contributing to the overall progress of the Northeast region.
